Pattachitra Artwork 005 - Lord Ganeshji
Lord Ganesha, also known as Ganapati or Vinayaka, is one of the most beloved deities in Hinduism, revered as the remover of obstacles, god of beginnings, wisdom, and prosperity. Recognizable by his elephant head and pot‐bellied human form, he carries symbolic items: a broken tusk (sacrifice), a goad (guidance), a noose (control), and a bowl of sweets (reward). Son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesha is worshipped at the start of any new venture or ceremony, and his blessings are sought by students, artists, and entrepreneurs.
Pattachitra is a traditional scroll painting style from eastern India (this one is from Raghurajpur, Odisha), known for its intricate detailing, mythological themes, and bold natural colours. Painted on cloth or dried palm leaves, patta means cloth, and chitra means picture. Rooted in ritual and storytelling, each piece is both a visual hymn and a historical archive where gods, folklore, and daily life unfurl in fine lines.
