Pattachitra Artwork 001 - Lord Jagannath

Pattachitra Artwork 001 - Lord Jagannath

Lord Jagannath is a form of Vishnu worshipped in Odisha and beyond. Known as the “Lord of the Universe,” he is most famously housed in the temple at Puri and celebrated during the grand Rath Yatra.

Pattachitra is a traditional scroll painting style from eastern India (this one is from Raghurajpur, Odisha), known for its intricate detailing, mythological themes, and bold natural colours. Painted on cloth or dried palm leaves, patta means cloth, and chitra means picture. Rooted in ritual and storytelling, each piece is both a visual hymn and a historical archive where gods, folklore, and daily life unfurl in fine lines.
